History

Sandra McKelvey is a product design and development specialist in handcrafted gifts, jewelry and home accessories. From 1987 to 1998 she operated an import business specializing in fairly-traded handicrafts from Brazil. She has consulted for Forests of the World in Costa Rica, and is currently consulting for Aid to Artisans in Brazil and MayaWorks in Guatemala.

Odara comes from the Yoruba word meaning "good for the body." Odara's products have been featured in such catalogs and stores as the Nature Company, Natural Wonders, Seventh Generation (now Harmony), Greenpeace, Walt Disney World, the Museum of Natural History, the Smithsonian Museum, Save the Children, and many small boutiques and galleries across the U.S., Europe and Japan.

Contemporary jewelry designed to enhance the body.

Each piece of jewelry is designed and individually handcrafted by Sandra McKelvey with extreme care taken in every detail. Sandra's work has been sold in exclusive galleries, juried shows, and Bloomingdale's. Her designs are influenced by her travels in South and Central America and by artisan traditions all over the world. Sandra believes the body is a landscape and the jewelry a woman wears should enhance her natural curves and form. It should feel natural and be comfortable to wear.
